Captain John Grabowski

A native San Diegan, Captain John Grabowski is a 30 year veteran on San Diego’s waterfront and one of the most respected and widely known sport fishing skippers in the business. His knowledge of saltwater fishing in general and long-range fishing in particular are unexcelled. In addition to serving as the relief skipper for the Red Rooster III, Grabowski’s saltwater fishing seminars are much anticipated and routinely draw standing room only crowds at fishing shows up and down the west coast. Is there is a single word that describes John Grabowski‘s approach to fishing and willingness to share his knowledge with others, it is passionate. His previous radio experience includes five years as co-host of The Fishing Line on KFMB.

1970-1976: Worked for Dick Gaydosh then Don Sansome on the one day boat New Lo-An, went from pinhead in 1970 to head deckhand by 1975.

1976-1986: Worked on Qualifier 105 for Don Sansome, started running boat in 1979 (19 years old) and by 1982 was full time first Captain of Qualifier 105

1986-1989: Bought, owned and operated the vessel Qualifer 105 along with partner John Klein.

1991: Departed Louisiana with newly constructed sportfishing vessel Excel and transited the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Panama canal, Costa Rica and on thru to San Diego, California where she is now the Largest sportfishing vessel in operation.

1991-1993: Owned and Operated Excel for two seasons then sold the boat to Bill Poole who is now the present owner.

1994: Captained the Qualifier 105 out of Puerto Vallarta for one season.

1995-1997: Captained the Long Range Vessel Red Rooster III for one season.

1996-2000: Co-Hosted "The Fishing Line with Kevin Mineo: radio show on 760 KFMB on Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. until we went off the air due to eventual fatal illness of my partner Kevin Mineo. The show was very well received by listeners and the station alike, over the course of four rears we had a very strong influence on the fishing and outdoor industry. We would like to dedicate this "New Show" to the memory and dedicated service to this industry by the late Kevin Mineo, God rest his soul.

1998-2005: I run special Relief Long range trips on a variety of Long range boats out of San Diego such as Royal Polaris, Shogun and most recently this past couple of years the Red RoosterIII.

I also for the past 11 years have owned with my wife Gabriela an Import/Export business that has grown into a very nice family business. Myself and Gabriela have two girls Mary (12) and Joanna (9) and we spend a lot of time both fresh and saltwater fishing as a family for fun and relaxation, this sport is not only one I have made a living at for 30 plus years but one I truly Love and enjoy teaching others about.
