Ed Zieralski
Ed Zieralski is the second member of the team.
Zieralski is the outdoor writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune and is a 30-year
veteran of the newspaper business. As a sportswriter he earned numerous local
and national awards for his reporting and writing. He covered both college and
professional sports, PGA golf and major events such as the World Series, Super
Bowl, NBA Finals and NHL Stanley Cup. As the San Diego Union-Tribune's outdoor
writer, he has covered major events such as the Bassmaster Classic, the Great
Outdoor Games and Bassmaster Opens on the West Coast. In addition to covering
outdoors, he is the newspaper's No. 2 golf writer and still covers other sports.
A former Los Angeles Dodger farmhand, Zieralski discovered California and all
its wonders while playing in the California League. Though he settled in
California for good over 30 years ago, Zieralski still has strong ties to the
East Coast. Zieralski has been the outdoor writer for the San Diego
Union-Tribune since 1992 and has won numerous national and state awards for his
writing. He was named Outdoor Writer of the Year in 2004 by the Outdoor Writers
Association of California. In addition to those awards, Zieralski has been
honored by the San Diego County Fish and Game Association and by the
International Game Fish Association for excellence as a communicator. An avid
hunter, Zieralski has worked on numerous conservation issues and was on the
original team that reintroduced wild turkeys to San Diego County in 1993.
